Reports: Cavaliers signing G Nwaba

The Cleveland Cavaliers will sign free agent guard David Nwaba, according to multiple reports Wednesday.

According to Yahoo Sports, the final details of the contract are still being worked out. Nwaba also discussed potential deals with the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers and other teams.

Previously a restricted free agent, Nwaba’s $1.7 million qualifying offer was pulled by the Bulls in mid-July, making him an unrestricted free agent.

The 25-year-old averaged 7.9 points and 4.7 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game across 70 appearances (21 starts) last season with the Bulls, who claimed him off waivers in July of 2017.

A former undrafted free agent out of Cal Poly, Nwaba spent the 2016-17 campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 6.0 points and 3.2 rebounds in 20 games (two starts) while bouncing back and forth between the Lakers and their G League affiliate.

Nwaba joins Channing Frye — who returned to Cleveland after being traded during last season — as the Cavaliers’ free agent signings this offseason. The team has also been negotiating with restricted free agent Rodney Hood, but Yahoo Sports reported Monday that talks between the sides have stalled.
